ANZ and Embassy Group collaboratively construct an English Medium Government School in the city

New school building was constructed in a record time of 10 months with an investment of Rs 2.86 Crores

Bengaluru, 7 June 2019: After ten months of intensive building work, students at GovernmentHigher Primary School, Hegdenagar are being treated to a state-of-the-art school building thanks to a collaboration between ANZ, Embassy Group, and the Government of Karnataka Education Department. The new building was inaugurated today just in time for the new session in the presence of the Shri. S. R. Umashankar, Principal Secretary to Primary & Secondary Education, Government of Karnataka and senior officials from Embassy and ANZ.

Government Higher Primary School, Hegdenagar, until recently did not have well-equipped classrooms or enough toilets for the current population of nearly 650 students. The Govt. of Karnataka Education Department, Embassy Group and ANZ partnered to create a spacious and well-equipped building to meet the needs of students. The Rs. 2.8 crore new building boasts of 15 classrooms, a multipurpose hall, library, computer lab, toilet blocks and accessibility facility for differently abled students.

Speaking at the inauguration Shri. S. R. Umashankar, the Principal Secretary to Primary & Secondary Education said, “We are excited to announce that this school has been selected to offer English Medium mode of instruction. The new facilities and infrastructure will complement this and allow these students to reach for their true potential. This endeavour of Embassy Group and ANZ through their community outreach program in mobilizing CSR funds , and their zeal in strengthening the primary education system is laudable. I hope they carry the torch and lead other corporate in providing facilities to the needy children.”

Embassy Group has devoted itself to closing gaps for Bangalore’s underprivileged children by harnessing the support of its business parks’ corporate tenants, empowering government school students to gain the skills they need for future employability and success. The Hegdenagar school build is the latest in a plethora of infrastructure interventions, which Embassy and its corporate partners have collaborated on across 23 government schools in Bangalore, implementing projects from toilet block and classroom renovations to ground-up constructions of new school buildings.

Students at Government Higher Primary School Hegdenagar already benefit from educational programs run by Embassy and its NGO partner Colours of Life, and Embassy-led collaborations in healthcare which provide comprehensive health screenings, treatment and awareness sessions for students. The build itself is expected to boost attendance and attainment levels by creating a safe and inviting environment for learning.
