About Colours of Life

"Colours of Life is a non-profit organization striving to uplift underprivileged children by helping government schools transform themselves into institutes of excellence."

Colours of Life began in the year 2001 to motivate family, friends and associates of the trustees to contribute time, resources and funds towards paying for school fees, uniforms, books, prizes and scholarships to government run primary and secondary schools.

There are over 4000 children, across 14 schools, whose lives are empowered through holistic education initiatives, with a planned target to support 30 schools over the next few years. The trust works in tandem with donors and government representatives to build infrastructure as well as to improve the quality of education.

Colours of Life’s interventions in government schools are blended into the existing schedule and are executed with a long-term vision in mind. They aim to supplement the existing facilities at government schools by bridging the gap in their current academic and extra-curricular schedules. Ongoing programs, including Math, Sports, Art & Craft, Life Skills, English and more, are provided for the comprehensive development of the students. Assisting with empowering teachers with innovative teaching methods, Colours of Life also ensures that subjects are taught through computers and “Smart Classes.”

Additionally, to broaden the types of activities that government school students are exposed to and to increase attendance, Colours of Life also runs summer camps, celebrations for Children’s Day and other annual days and provides educational out-bound trips. These camps and inter-school competitions aim at furnishing students with skills in arts and crafts, public speaking, drama, music, classical dance and competitive sports including swimming and tennis.

Further, Colours of Life closes the existing gaps in health & hygiene awareness and interventions by providing every student with medical care. Students are often infected with easily preventable illnesses and health issues, which Colours of Life combats through distribution of health & hygiene kits and awareness programs. Annually, students also undergo medical and dental check-ups, post which they are advised further treatment, if necessary.

To bring about a transformation in 100 government schools, eventually moulding them to provide education that is on par with private schools. Colours of Life also aims to focus on students’ extra-curricular activities, character development programmes, vocational training courses, spoken and written English skills and more.

To partner with leading educational and vocational agencies that can implement a productive learning programme within existing government schools. Improving the infrastructure of adopted government schools to provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment and to monitor the development of students through robust quantitative and qualitative uniquely engineered mechanisms. Identifying and resolving the limitations of students who are forced to grow up in an unstable home environment.
