British Prime Minister Visits Stonehill Government School in Bangalore

Bangalore, November 8, 2016: The British Prime Minister Theresa May visited the Stonehill Government School, the school which was adopted by the Stonehill International School (an education initiative of the Embassy Group) in 2012 with the intention of providing varied assistance to the school. The visit to the school was part of the Prime Minister’s current visit to India to strengthen trade ties. The highlight of the visit was an interactive session with students from Stonehill government and International school.

Embassy Group, India’s leading real estate developer who has been instrumental in providing the infrastructure at the Stonehill Government School hosted The British Prime Minister Theresa May along with the British Deputy High Commission and Andy Green, the British Royal Air Force fighter pilot and World Land Speed Record holder.

Speaking about the event Jitu Virwani, Chairman and Managing Director Embassy Group said "It was a great pleasure to host The British Prime Minister and the British High Commissioner at the school today. We are committed to extend more support to schools and work closely with the authorities to improve the quality of infrastructure and education system for the underserved children of our state". Mr. Andy Green presented an interactive session with material projection for students of the Stonehill Government and Stonehill International School. His workshop session was to motivate and encourage young people, especially girls, to pursue careers in STEM fields--science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The interactive session was followed by a flypast at 300 feet by the Indian Air Force involving three planes in a V formation, followed by a single fighter jet, followed by an aerial helicopter display over the school premises.

About Stonehill Government School:
The Stonehill Government Higher Primary School in Jala Hobli, Tarahunse Village, Bangalore North Taluk was adopted by the Stonehill International School (an educational initiative of the Embassy Group) in the year 2012 with the intention of providing assistance to the school. The adoption of the school is a part of Embassy Groups CSR program. Since the adoption of the School, Embassy Group has taken care of Infrastructure, Stationary, Uniforms, Additional staff, Maintenance, Training and development and Technology infrastructure. Regular exchange programs with Stonehill International School are also conducted.

The school is situated about 25 kilometers away from Bangalore City and 12 kilometers from Yelahanka and is located between NH7 and Doddaballapur. This Government school was started as a primary school in 1942 before Independence which during that time was recognized by the Mysore Government with school strength of 45 children. In the year 1981-82, this school was upgraded up to class 7 and in 2003-04 the school was upgraded up to class 8.
